Maybe, if I cared about any of the characters, I could appreciate everything this movie is excellent at. But I didn't and I couldn't.
Or maybe not, maybe I didn't care because I'm too tired of remakes and new takes and retellings and the same thing under another perspective or whatever excuse producers use this week to hide their fear of not making their ROI.
Fuck you, suits, I watched this for Eggers and Skarsgård, because I like them, because they're current, there was no need to squeeze the past yet again.
Minus too many stars because you're cowards.

The Oscars are a popularity contest. The preferred oscar winner is slightly above average artsy junk. For years that never winning an oscar is what save Scorsese from mediocrity, but as he got older the quality of his work declined enough to win an oscar.
