I've had this image buzzing in my head for weeks. I'm obviously not a graphic designer, but made a rough draft myself with #LibreOffice Draw.
It's for a #fiction I #amWriting, about a professional troll who lost his job to AI, shortly after helping the Ideology come to power through the use of psychological manipulation. Chaos ensues as the world tumbles toward a near-future #cyberpunk #dystopia.
(P.S. looking for a #graphicdesign pro and a couple beta readers for this project)
đ **When The Solution Is Worse Than The Initial Problem**
I was advised by a friend to intersperse fiction books in between my reading of non-fiction material. He said that it would help with concentration and removing boredom. Taking his advice to heart, I have started doing exactly as advised. This has led me into a quandary. The latest fiction book that I chose is over one thousand pages of historical fiction. The choice of book came from an online recommendation. I am currently on page two hundred and eighty-eight and it has been a struggle getting this far. Ostensibly a 'palate cleaner' my current choice is boring and can in no way be described as a page turner. The easiest solution would be to stop reading and move on; however, I find that really difficult. I know it is a personal flaw and something that I need to address and change. In the meantime, I will continue to struggle and hope the thousand-page mark comes quickly.

So today, to my great fascination, I realise that Chinese fiction has a four part structure:
- Qi (辡) â Setup: Introduces characters, setting, and emotional tone. Often includes poetic visuals or symbolic moments.
- Cheng (ćż) â Development: Builds relationships and stakes. This phase may feel leisurely, but itâs rich with emotional layering.
- Zhuan (轏) â Twist: A sudden shift â betrayal, revelation, or a change in perspective. Itâs not always a plot twist; sometimes itâs a thematic or emotional pivot.
- Jie (çť) â Conclusion: Ties everything together, often with a sense of moral or emotional resolution rather than just plot closure.
So, what happens if you've been trained in the Western story structure narrative all your life and want to write Chinese fiction - not just fiction set in China, but Chinese in every way?
This is what I'm doing now, and you know, I'm avoiding the Western narrative styles in terms of dialogue and structure instinctively, literally throwing out the playbook and just going by gut feel. This is probably due to a life time consuming Chinese fiction - both modern and classical. My brain understands what needs to be done. Fascinating.
