<p>Excited to see some new apps for the fediverse drop recently. </p><p>This one is a cool - similar to how there are now Bluesky image centric apps like Flashes, the fedi dev <span class="h-card"><a href="https://sns.mszpro.com/@me" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>me</span></a></span> has introduced Myo. It creates timelines of image and video from your fediverse accounts. Lists, hashtag timelines, etc. are supported. </p><p><a href="https://mszpro.com/myo" rel="nofollow"><span class="invisible">https://</span>mszpro.com/myo</a></p><p><a href="/tags/fediapp/" rel="tag">#FediApp</a> <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#Fediverse</a></p>

<p>By way of an overdue <a href="/tags/introduction/" rel="tag">#introduction</a>; I&#x27;m rather a simple soul, I mainly enjoy tinkering with <a href="/tags/computers/" rel="tag">#computers</a>, strumming <a href="/tags/guitars/" rel="tag">#guitars</a> and a wee bit of <a href="/tags/spaniel/" rel="tag">#spaniel</a> sitting. I&#x27;m now taking some tentative first steps into <a href="/tags/gardening/" rel="tag">#gardening</a> too, just to fall in with the <a href="/tags/retired/" rel="tag">#retired</a> stereotype I suppose. I&#x27;m also reading the <a href="/tags/internet/" rel="tag">#internet</a> and I&#x27;m currently about halfway through it. I detest <a href="/tags/bigtech/" rel="tag">#BigTech</a>, the <a href="/tags/algorithm/" rel="tag">#algorithm</a>, <a href="/tags/ai/" rel="tag">#AI</a> and <a href="/tags/surveillancecapitalism/" rel="tag">#SurveillanceCapitalism</a>. I love the <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#Fediverse</a> because it reminds me of the olde worlde internet. I try to post/boost a little bit of everything and anything, including <a href="/tags/art/" rel="tag">#art</a>, <a href="/tags/science/" rel="tag">#science</a>, <a href="/tags/botany/" rel="tag">#botany</a>, <a href="/tags/transport/" rel="tag">#transport</a>, <a href="/tags/animals/" rel="tag">#animals</a>, <a href="/tags/architecture/" rel="tag">#architecture</a> and <a href="/tags/humour/" rel="tag">#humour</a>, without getting too mired in <a href="/tags/politics/" rel="tag">#politics</a>, although it&#x27;s not easy to avoid politics when you care about <a href="/tags/nature/" rel="tag">#nature</a> and the <a href="/tags/environment/" rel="tag">#environment</a>. I&#x27;m happy to interact with everyone/anyone irrespective of creed, colour, nationality or gender/sexual preferences. In the nicest sense of the word, I really don&#x27;t give a fuck what you are. I consider myself to be a floating voter of centre/left leaning persuasion. I support the notion of managed <a href="/tags/degrowth/" rel="tag">#degrowth</a> and <a href="/tags/social/" rel="tag">#social</a> responsibility. I would rather discuss the common ground we share and aim to respect our differences. I try to avoid fuckwits wherever I encounter them. <p>There is a language general setting where you can define which languages you want to read primarily in <a href="/tags/mastodon/" rel="tag">#Mastodon</a>.</p><p>The problem is: nobody cares! Nobody seems to set up their account properly and tell which language they are using.</p><p>The result: the language filter doesn&#x27;t work, and the stream is crowded with so many people writing in languages one can&#x27;t read.</p><p>I am looking at you, east-asian accounts flooding the <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#fediverse</a>! </p><p>It&#x27;s no fun at all ...</p>

So I&#x27;ve been running my own <a href="/tags/snac/" rel="tag">#Snac</a> instance for the past week and I have to say that I&#x27;m actually loving it. It hardly takes up any resources and the inbuilt web interface is easily configurable with nothing more than <a href="/tags/css/" rel="tag">#CSS</a> .<br>There are some things that folk used to running <a href="/tags/mastodon/" rel="tag">#Mastodon</a> might not like. For example it does not show any follower or following numbers to any instances. So people using Mastodon will see 0 followers and 0 following even though those Snac uses may have 100&#x27;s of followers .<br>You do get a people tab on the snac interface that is just a list divided into people following you and people you follow but no numbers. This is an intentional design feature by the author <span class="h-card"><a href="https://comam.es/snac/grunfink" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>grunfink</span></a></span> who stated.<br><p>I haven&#x27;t implemented a simple count of following / followers on purpose; I consider all metrics in network media inherently toxic, because it&#x27;s a way of comparing the relative success of people. This is also why, as seen from other Fediverse implementations, snac accounts always report 0 / 0 connections.<br></p>Also not all features work with android / iOS apps but most of the essentials do. I occasionally use <a href="/tags/tusky/" rel="tag">#Tusky</a> when I&#x27;m not just using the web interface for Snac which I just find easier. I think I will be staying with this fantastic lightweight piece of software and look forward to see what new features get added in the future. A wish would be to have a way of importing followers from Mastodon to Snac, which I think the dev is working on at the moment. Oh and I nearly forgot to say that you can import the CSV file of people that you are following through the command line and it&#x27;s fairly simple to do too. I&#x27;d 100% recommended giving Snac a try if you&#x27;re looking for a no nonsene lightweight <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#Fediverse</a> instance.<br><br><a href="https://codeberg.org/grunfink/snac2" rel="nofollow"><span class="invisible">https://</span>codeberg.org/grunfink/snac2</a><br><br>
