Is there any internal method for preventing a snac2 server from federating? I don't mean blocking. I mean prohibiting all federation and contact with other activitypub instances. The goal is the local users don't see anything from the fediverse and the fediverse won't see anything from the local server.

I realize there are brute ways to hack nginx and IPtables to block ports and things like that. I'm just wondering if there is an internal method that is more sensible, or if perhaps some blocks of code could be removed before compilation.

WRT #BlueSky: I know some people are getting a lot of mileage out of it, and I don't want to detract from that.

But whenever I log in after having been away for more than a couple of hours, I almost universally have to block a bot. Sometimes several. I feel like I spend more time blocking bots than interacting with humans.

And that's on top of the fact that blocking a user doesn't remove them from your followers list. At least, thankfully, they've started hiding blocked accounts on your publicly-viewable followers list, but this still artificially inflates follower counts. And there are still no polls, no way to increase max post length, etc.

Don't get me wrong, there are also some good things that Mastodon and other Fedi services could bear adopting (access controls for replies, quote boosts, etc). But still. Bots everywhere. Plus the fact that _here_ is where my posts actually get boosted, even on my other account with only 30some followers.

I'm not going to delete BlueSky, but for now, #Mastodon and the #Fediverse really are where it's at.

A few days ago, I boosted a photo I liked, posted by someone who shares many photos and with whom I've never interacted. Yesterday, this person blocked me. Considering that I haven't posted anything, I am really puzzled trying to figure out the reason behind it. Maybe it's because I don't show the number of followers and following?

I was really excited for the #Fediverse in 2024 and I think that feeling has borne out. Projects have released or started in earnest but so did the influenze of facebook, a long-term genocide and queer violence supporter who have this week changed their terms to expressly permit queerphobic and other vicious harms.

I just received Testflight invitation for @surf application. And discovered that VoiceOver, assistive tech for blind people, does not read anything. Just says "bottom sheet" twice, and the app's name, then NOTHING. I hope they fix this mess, because this all means cutting blind people off. I won't keep silent in front of yet another accessibility issue. #ableism #accessibility #blind #inclusion #disability #voiceover #fediverse
