📹 #HurricaneHelene | One year ago tonight, in the early hours of September 27th, I drove to the Circle K to gas-up the Fiat and buy batteries, bottled water and ice. We lost power about 3 AM.
The damage here in the Upcountry of SC was minor compared to the devastation in Western NC, but the thunder and lightning, rain and high winds were frightening. How bad would it get?

1/3 ANGUS had a queue of admirers when I spotted him on a bench near the train depot. Humans Ava and Ted of Durham NC were gracious, and obviously proud of their two year-old English Bulldog.
When the dust cleared, I approached: "May I take a picture of your dog for my blog?" Beaming, both: "Sureofcourse!" ❤️
🍎 It's apple season in Western NC!
Katt, the cashier at Ingle's saw I was buying a half-dozen Honeycrisps and asked if I was making a pie.
"Hadn't thought about it, why?"
Katt reached under her register and pulled out a spiral notebook.
"I made one of these last weekend, and I'm telling everyone I know!
📷 1/3 Several hundred showed for the #NoKings Demonstration on the town square in Bryson City (NC, pop. 1,500) this afternoon. Had to dash in and out because of the noise level, including passing cars honking their support.
Mike is local and a veteran protester. His sign read: "Help The Needy Not The Greedy!"
Mike welcomed me to the Mountains and invited me the Friday Old Guys Coffee Meetup. 😊
