If you follow someone whose own posts are good but they boost too much, you can hide just their boosts if you want:
1. Go to their profile page
2. Click the ⋯ icon
3. Click "Hide boosts"
(If you change your mind, go back to their profile and click "Show boosts" instead.)

Two gender-related #FediTips:
1. The first time you interact with someone or say something about their post, it's worth checking their profile to see if they've shared their pronouns. I've seen a slew of misgenderings of trans and enby people in replies recently, all of which were preventable.
2. If you are comfortable revealing this about yourself, it's a great idea to share your own pronouns in your bio, ESPECIALLY if you feel like you don't "need" to. Normalize sharing pronouns!
Did you know you can subscribe to PeerTube channels from ordinary podcast apps like Apple Podcasts etc?
If you're publishing on PeerTube, you can offer this option to expand your audience to people who aren't on the Fediverse but enjoy podcasts.

This is why so many TV series and films contain warnings at the start if they feature flashing images or flashing lighting.
There has recently been a wave of AI-generated accounts signing up pretending to be real people.
Server admins are trying to ban them as quickly as they are discovered, and some servers have temporarily closed sign-ups while they deal with it.
If you spot an account you think might be AI-generated, click ⋯ on one of the account's posts and select "report". Remember to give your reason for reporting, so that the admin knows what to look for.
A few tips on making email fun and enjoyable again. No seriously
Never register to a newsletter. Use RSS instead. This will cut down on more emails than you think
Use email alias and disposable email addresses. If you’re going away on vacation, temporarily disable the disposable email addresses or aliases until you return.
Actually use email for lengthy non-business communication. It’s very soothing.
Instead of keeping things in your email, move those to a notes text file for easier sorting later. Schedule non important folders to automatically delete if your provider supports it.
Ban addresses instead of clicking unsubscribe at the bottom of emails.
Create a designated important/to do folder that never automatically deletes. Move important/action items into that folder.
Switch all reading views to plain text. Emails are not web pages and should never be treated as a web page. If the information can go into a text document, it does not belong in your email storage.

When someone posts a link to their Mastodon post or profile on some other social media or a blog, I click on it and there I am, not signed in and no way to just sign in because it’s not on my server. Then I have to go to my own feed and hunt for the post I was just looking at.
Is there a way to click on a Mastodon link and just be taken to my own feed where I’m already signed in? Is this something that’s so obvious I’m going to smack my forehead?

If you can, make sure to edit your original post instead of posting the correction in another post in the thread. I see so many people boost the original post but since it wasn't edited, the edited information is more, often times, lost. Editing isn't a bad thing at all, despite what some #Fediverse users tell you. The way federation works, your correction might not even make it to all the instances. Editing is common on most third party apps too. Editing makes you more trustworthy in my eyes. I love the edit functionality, and I am old enough to remember when Fedi nearly flipped it's shit in a negative way when the feature was first proposed. It's the best feature we have. Use it! #FediTips

I'm starting to realise that the fediverse works best when you use diffrent instances for diffrent things, I now have Loops for video, and Bookwyrm for books and reading.
My question is what's the best instance for posting hiking photos, or just photos in general?
I browse Fedi on my mobile device a lot. I’ve come across recent posts that do everything they can to exclude it actually becoming a link, such as deliberately spacing HTTPS so it is not hyperlinked. It would make my browsing experience a lot easier and I’m sure others also if you allow the platform to make the hyperlink. It makes it easier to share. It makes it easier for everybody to click on. It makes it easier for everybody to copy. You will not be punished for including hyperlinks. #FediTips

Do you get frustrated by the 500 character size limit on posts? Here's a list of good, reliable servers that let you write posts longer than 500 characters:

Privacy note: While they may appear to be, polls on here are not anonymous under the hood. It's possible to learn who voted how. It's easier for the admin(s) of the instance the poll came from but it can also be possible for regular users under some conditions depending on the software involved. Like most things on the Fediverse, an inherently-public medium, privacy is not absolute.

If you want to restrict who can see your post, choose "Followers Only" (only your followers can see it) or "Only People I Mention" (only accounts mentioned in that post can see it).
There's apparently scammers going round pretending to be Mastodon admins, demanding people "verify their identity".
Do not click on their links, do not give them any info. It is a scam. Genuine Mastodon server admins never demand verification like this.
