Oh, it's also #FediforumFriday which reminds me that folks should check out talks from #Fedicon a couple of weekends ago! and also, get tickets for the next #Fediforum coming up in October. https://fediforum.org/news/2025-08-06-fediforum-fall-announced/

The latest issue of Web Technology News (WTN) has just been published. This week I focus on the web-based ChatGPT Apps platform, but there's also #FediForum action, other open social web news, and web platform opportunities. https://webtechnology.news/openai-turns-chatgpt-into-a-web-app-platform/
Fedi folks mentioned: @firt, @ben, @laurenshof, @brentsimmons, @claviska, @textfiles

Bounce, first previewed at #FediForum, launched to the public today.
Migrating your social media account from Bluesky to the Fediverse, while keeping your followers! Some people say it's the magic long prophetized for the open social web and considered impossible by non-believers! 🙂 But here it is!
Congratulations @snarfed.bsky.social and @quillmatiq from @anewsocial !

Brazil is starting to require age verification for social media sites, following other jurisdictions like the US state of Mississippi.
FediForum advisory board member @skarnio and his organization, Alquimídia, are organizing an online meetup TOMORROW to discuss the impact of this new law on Fediverse instances in Brazil and what instance operators need to do.

#FediForum is a wrap. It was chock full of fedi goodness. I expect to be still be talking about some of the content .6 FediForums from today.
#Fediforum Videos are up!
At #FediForum, @n00q discussed a Federated music service for #BandCamp refugees. After a few days of drawing up requirements and specs, and a couple days of code, something interesting is taking shape.
Here's a too-fast-tour of a hypothetical album page built with #Emissary. Custom skins, uploads, and transcoding music is still TBD, but so far this feels like magic.
Bands' profiles will be native citizens of the Fediverse to like, share, and comment. Excited yet?
"The Stakes Are Real: Why the Open Social Web Matters Now."
Amazing keynote from @ben at last week's #FediForum, reminding us all that what we are building here is critical for the world at this moment in time, and also some good advice on how to solve the right problems.
I am attending FediForum on October 7th & 8th.
See you there?
Dear #Fediverse Community 👋

Have you checked out the loooong list of topics people are bringing to discuss at #FediForum next week? It spans the entire open social web, and more are tricking in as people are registering.
https://fediforum.org/2025-10/
Your topic is not among them? Come and bring it! FediForum is an unconference!
With my #FediForum attendee hat on, rather than the organizer hat on, here are some things I want to discuss with you all:
Upcoming legal requirements for social media interop (utah, other us states, eu dma revision etc) – how does this impact our community?
From millions to billions – what is a plausible narrative for how to grow the open social web?
What should the european union (and other countries) do about social media?
Not sure I'll get to all of them ... https://fediforum.org
I am attending at least part of the Fediforum as I can during my work day.
I've been to several of them, and the addition of keynotes last time was a great success.
Glad to see that continue this time as well.
NOTE: There are limited offerings of "almost free" tickets for those that need them, so check out that option if you want to go!
today is day one of #Fediforum online, so expect a lot of #Fedinews about lots of things...
Hey #FediForum, I've an ask: If you attended my session at the end of FediForum today, and you'd like to see me continue to work on these ideas, please support me financially.
Right now I'm having to look for work outside of the Fediverse because I simply cannot make ends meet.
I need €60-70k per year to support myself, right now, year to date, I've received €17,150.52 in financial support from the community, and €11,400 from NLNet grants.
That doesn't allow me to to all the work I'm doing, I'm barely able to pay my rent right now.
Mind-blowing fact from @ben during #fediforum : in an fundraising experiment, he was able to raise more donations for #Propublica on the Fediverse than on any other social channel. 🤯
FediForum got a mention today in a piece on Mastodon Starter Packs in The Verge. Mastodon starter packs are coming, and were discussed at #FediForum today.
https://www.theverge.com/news/794988/mastodon-bluesky-starter-packs-fediverse
The new #Mastodon team is starting to hit its stride! We're about to ship Quote Posts in 4.5 and our next release (4.6) will have (Starter)Packs (name tdb). It's fun to see our momentum building!
We reviewed the design today at #FediForum and the FEP is available for public feedback.

Here are my slides from my FediForum demo of CrowdBucks.
Another book mentioned during FediForum:
"Open Social Cookbook"
(I am not sure who the author is though.)

I joined the "LinkedOut" session today, put on by @BjornW , on day 2 of FediForum.
The session was about "building a decentralized, federated,
user-friendly, sustainable professional network application
supporting the needs of professionals, companies and recruiters".
It was difficult choice to make (to go to this session and not others) as there were many other interesting sessions at the same time!
BUT —
#fediforum is over. All went well. Good discussions, great keynote, amazing demos. Attendees seem to be happy, or so they said.
Time for a nap.
I declare I have earned it! Ha!
Hello to #FediForum from the computer mines
