Today, President von der Leyen is in 🇵🇱 Wrocław to visit the areas recently affected by heavy floods and rains in Central Europe.

She also discussed the response with the leaders of Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, and Austria.

🇪🇺⚖️ Today is a good day for European citizens, tax justice, and fair competition.

In its final judgment, @Curia has confirmed our 2016 decision that Ireland granted illegal aid to Apple, requiring the release of up to 13 billion euros in unpaid taxes.

The court has also upheld our decision against Google for abusing its dominant position by favouring its own comparison shopping service and the resulting €2.4 billion fine.

We are recommending that EU countries extend smoke-free environment policies to electronic cigarettes and other new products like heated tobacco.

Also, smoke-free environments should cover outdoor recreational areas such as public playgrounds, amusement parks and swimming pools.

These measures will protect people, especially children, from the effects of second-hand smoke.

We have requested information from YouTube, Snapchat, and TikTok about the design of their recommender systems under the Digital Services Act.

YouTube and Snapchat need to detail their algorithms’ parameters and their role in amplifying risks, including users' mental well-being and protection of minors.

TikTok must explain measures against manipulation and risks to elections, media pluralism, and civic discourse.

Europe’s next quantum leap: LUMI-Q.

A new European quantum computer will be built in Czechia with 🇨🇿 🇫🇮 🇸🇪 🇩🇰 🇵🇱 🇳🇴 🇩🇪 🇧🇪 🇳🇱 under the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking.

Its star-shaped topology will enable the execution of very complex quantum algorithms, adding a new architecture to the European quantum computing ecosystem.

LUMI-Q will be available to European users in science, industry, and the public sector.

Europe’s vision for AI: prioritising people, safeguarding rights.

Nearly 1,000 attendees, including AI providers, industry leaders, civil society members, academics, and experts will virtually gather today to begin drafting the first Code of Practice for general-purpose AI models.

They will discuss transparency, copyright, and mitigation measures, among others, helping us in detailing the AI Act rules.

The final Code will be unveiled in April 2025.
