I had no expectations for this one, but it's making *me* feel empathy for a spineless suit whose job is to purge artistic vision from movies. Don't underestimate it, only a great show can pull that off.

Today I saw the new Predator trailer (is it me or did they make a young, handsome predator??) and thought: welp, maybe Predators 2010 wasn't that bad after all, at least it wasn't a CGI-fest. So I gave it another try and, after all these years, was disappointed again.
But hey, Adrien Brody tried, he could never have saved this flick, but he tried his best. That has to count for something.

I wanted to take another look at the sets, lighting, production design... I should have watched the making of, maybe some stills, because I can't focus on the visuals, not while this... this remix of old elements posing as a new movie annoys me.

Kevin Bacon uses a chainsaw to fight demons.
If you need more info, this show is not for you. If that's all you need to know to watch it, you'll enjoy it a bit more than you're expecting, it manages to find its own personality despite being highly derivative.
finished watching The Eternaut 馃寱馃寱馃寱馃寫馃寫
It's unfair that this show feels derivative, I'm sure the source material was groundbreaking and influenced lots of stories that came after, but that's the problem: we've seen all of this a thousand times. They're tropes now, we should have made this show decades ago or not at all.
Maybe, hear me out because this might be a radical idea, just maybe, we should stop recycling old ideas and put our money on the new ones.
And maybe I should stop listening to the internet telling me to watch this or that Most Important Thing.
finished watching The Asphyx 馃寱馃寱馃寫馃寫馃寫
Remember the movies by Roger Corman and Vincent Price based on Poe's stories? Maybe that team and some intensive rewrites could have turned the idea of this flick into a proper cult classic.
Sadly, that wasn't the case, The Asphyx has all of the cheese and none of the charm.

Boy, that scalated slowly.
finished watching Black Sails Season 4
I can't believe that a show that started so bad, and I mean Bad, ended up being so engaging and thought provoking.
Maybe I underestimated it so hard that I made a big deal of a few redeeming qualities, but maybe it gradually became good. I just finished the last episode and I'm still puzzled by the trip, so I might have to rewatch it some day to make up my mind.
In any case, I recommend searching "black sails woke" on your least annoying search engine and enjoy the copious amounts of fash tears that you'll find.

I loved it. 10/10. No notes.
finished watching Novocaine 馃寱馃寱馃寱馃寫馃寫
Are #CIPA movies a thing? I learned it existed thanks to an episode of House (I owe that show most of my medical "knowledge") Years later I watched that little movie where the protagonist is an assassin insensitive to pain, The Midnight Man (2016) https://neodb.social/movie/0VkEK52ooUYWCGksk08HyL Now there's Novocaine too, that I know of. CIPA keeps coming up on my screen without me having ever looked for it.
I'm wondering if these shows help by raising awareness of a rare disorder, I did read a couple of articles after I watched House, so it kind of worked for me, I'm aware. Maybe some public interest could even get studies funded... or maybe this kind of thing (not talking about Novocaine in particular) is just a bit exploitative and doesn't help any patients at all.
Opinions welcome.

The stunts, capturing real humans and objects on camera... that materiality makes all the difference. If every action movie was made like this, you couldn't get me out of the cinema.
Everything else about it? I don't know, I don't care that much. I do care about those brief moments when I feel like a kid watching movies, that's rare and this one manages to pull it off several times. So thank you, you weird scientologist, I don't know why you risk your life for this, but thank you.
