People are talking a lot about #ZohranMamdani as the first Muslim mayor of New York (and that's great!), but I think an even bigger story is #GhazalaHashmi, Lieutenant-Governor-elect of Virginia, the first Muslim woman elected to *statewide* office anywhere in the United States. She received more than 1.8 million votes, almost double Mamdani's (impressive!) receipts, 55% of her election to 50.5% of his.

I have no patience this week for people policing others’ feelings. I’m no more interested in your opinion of who is allowed to have hope and excitement than I am about a Republican’s opinion about who is allowed to have healthcare or food stamps.
