My dog is neither the prettiest dog in the world
nor the best educated (the critter is relentless in some respects). But I love that little face, love the corn smell of her feet, love that she is full of happiness when rolling in grass.

In her old age, she walked you.

And in those walks, she made you appreciate
bird song before sunrise
the breeze and everything it carried
the simple beauty in moving slow before the world is awake.
She brought so much joy and has left it with us
like all angels do.
We’ve had Poppy for four years, and after every meal she still comes over to whoever fed her and does this little head butt thing to say “thank you.”
Sometimes we get a little burp in our faces which is also nice.
