Yesterday was a long day for us.
We spent the whole morning at the VA medical clinic.
No matter how many times you hear that your condition will not be getting better it is still hard to accept.
Today is rainy and cold. As soon as I saw the sky open up over the ocean I bundled everyone into the truck to chase some fresh air. The truck takes us right to the ocean, without passing go. We use the designated access roads without actually dropping on to the beach. It works perfectly to accommodate mobility limitations.
Summer was a happy dog.
We all benefit from these small outdoor adventures and getting a break from unpleasant realities we can leave for later.

JACK is a 2-year old Australian Cattle Dog I met today at the PLOW FESTIVAL at Darnell Farms.
Watched this pup suss his surroundings, the thousand people (half children) milling about and smells from nearby food trucks—mind grinding a million rpm a minute. ❤️
This is Summer's happiest place.
She tucks herself between her pal's feet and his recliner. He rubs her belly while she plays with her favorite old purple garden glove.
It cracks me up when she wiggles her way under his legs and immediately flips on her back.
She knows how to find some fun attention and a massage on this rainy day.

At the Festival today CINNAMON and GINGER's human stopped their pram for every admirer to fawn over these Yorkies. ❤️
Summer is sticking to my husband like glue.
She let's me take her outside but the rest of her attention is fixed on her pal.
Cold weather isn't his friend because he struggles to stay warm.
Summer accepts the challenge to be his personal heater.
She is the best mobile body warmer ever.

I never thought that blood test results would bring me so much joy:
‘She has the bloodwork of a young, healthy dog again’
(Normal bilirubin is up to 0.9. She had 8.0 when she was admitted!!)

Today’s supervisor is using her tail to keep her nose warm this morning.
Summer was so surprised by all of the good wishes she received on her third birthday.
She is thankful for all of her Mastodon friends.
So am I.
This morning we are running down the hill with food to fill up the little free pantry.
I know it isn't much but we are going to fill it up everyday until the government shutdown is over if we can manage it.
Summer is coming along to get some practice being on her leash.
It is time to take care of each other.

She was my best friend.
Cookie, born 01 Oct 2009 in Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Died 20 June 2024 in the Tenderloin, San Francisco, California. She loved adventures and naps equally. She ate delicious food daily. She slept on multiple soft pillows and blankets everywhere. She walked, climbed, ran, and she finally lay down to sleep in my arms.
My grief is an ocean, but I am glad she got to touch so many lives on the Internet, and everywhere she went.

I didn't realize that upgrading the cell phones for six people would be so complicated.
It took a family meeting, a spreadsheet, and a phone call with customer service.
Trying to prioritize our wants and needs against the cost and hard sell service provider tactics.
We finally figured it out.
I am old enough to remember when my whole family shared one phone on the wall and we all knew each other's business for better or worse.
I don't tell the grandkids that, because it sounds too much like walking to school up hill both ways.
Sometimes, I wonder how I ever got so dependent on a device that shares my personal information with goodness knows who.
It must be progress, right?
Summer says she prefers her in person communication style.

Today is catch up day.
Summer and I have already filled the free pantry, started the laundry and cooked breakfast.
Later, I will meet my new woke hair stylist.
I told her not to worry. I will be happy with the haircut, really. It's just hair and it will grow back. I know my hair is hard to cut. We will figure it out together.
Yesterday, we decided to donate all of the money we would have spent on the holidays to the local food bank instead of sending gifts to out of town relatives.
Summer decided it was time for some fun and ran up the stairs with her toys. She gave me her let's go play look.
She is very persuasive.
