Any good books on coding?

Not just coding, but writing whole new type of code? History on coding be nice as well. I already own Hackers:Heroes of the Computer Revolution. But like other books on it as well.

What can I do with my Fire HD 8 10th generation

Hi all :)

I bought the Fire HD 8 a few years ago, and I want to be able to use it for books from other stores. I like the format and layout, so I’m happy to keep it, but I want to make it more useful.

I’ve got KOReader set up on my phone, and Calibre on my PC, and from what I’ve read, setting up Calibre Web with KOReader seems to be the way to go. I want to make sure that I’ve got it right though. The main things I want to do are to sync my book progress between the Fire and my phone, ideally without having to download the books separately to each device, and to be able to read epubs from anywhere, not just specific stores.

Is it just a case of getting Calibre Web set up and telling KOReader to use it as a source, or do I need to do anything else? Thanks :)

Very much enjoyed this talk of Adnan Husein with Alana Lentin.

Lentin makes a good case that Zionism is where Western racial fascism and colonialism have always been headed. Clarified a lot to me about the hasbara "the West is next" and the unconditional support of Western governments and the support of fascists for Zionism.

They talk about many things, like CRT, the antisemitism of anti-antisemitism, and how anti-colonial and anti-racism concepts/terminology are used in service of the colonialism and racism of the status quo. Sounds like a very interesting book, good analysis.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3XK8g5U3DnM

#AntiColonialism #Counterinsurgency #RacialCapitalism #books #TheNewRacialRegime #zionism #fascism @bookstodon @palestine @israel

📖 **When The Solution Is Worse Than The Initial Problem**

I was advised by a friend to intersperse fiction books in between my reading of non-fiction material. He said that it would help with concentration and removing boredom. Taking his advice to heart, I have started doing exactly as advised. This has led me into a quandary. The latest fiction book that I chose is over one thousand pages of historical fiction. The choice of book came from an online recommendation. I am currently on page two hundred and eighty-eight and it has been a struggle getting this far. Ostensibly a 'palate cleaner' my current choice is boring and can in no way be described as a page turner. The easiest solution would be to stop reading and move on; however, I find that really difficult. I know it is a personal flaw and something that I need to address and change. In the meantime, I will continue to struggle and hope the thousand-page mark comes quickly.

#DNF #Reading #Fiction #Nonfiction #Books #Bookstodon @bookstodon

Suggest me sci-fi novels with space and planetary exploration themes.

I’m looking for something like ‘A Fire Upon the Deep’ or ‘The Stars my Destination’. There should be a lot of world building and the plot shouldn’t linger in just one place most of the book.

What are some solo novels that exceed an authors anthology?

Only in the last 2 years have I begun my journey on reading as a hobby and pastime. I focused on sci-fi and fantasy picking series of books like The Witcher, The Wool series and The Expanse.

As I get to the last page of these books and browse the other books by the author they often have standalone novels set in the same universe.

The same thought crosses my mind that these books are probably not as good as the series of books and are more world building or cashing in on the success of the others.

What single novels or miniseries have you read that stood out as more interesting to you than the series an author is famous for?

Looking for a specific type of horror recommendation

My partner and I are doing some traveling and dispersed camping in some fairly remote locations. We listen to audiobooks quit a bit and on one of our legs we listened to The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher and it was so perfectly creepy and we want more of it. The combination of the wooded setting, and psychological type horror that was more creepy than graphic really made the week after listening to it kinda terrifying. We’ve read Pet Sematary previously and it also really hit the right notes and would have been a great read deep in the trees.

We read Salems Lot and What Moves the Dead and while we enjoyed them, they did not hit the same spot. Vampires aren’t creepy in the right way and neither was What Moves the Dead. Horrors isn’t our normal genre and we don’t know where to go from here. We’d really appreciate some some reccomendations
