finished reading Record of a Spaceborn Few 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
Centuries after sending colonies into space as insurance against Earth's collapse, humans have integrated into alien civilisation. But now what purpose do those colonies serve, and what happens to their distinctive communal culture? Good premise & great world-building but not much plot, with a few too many characters.

The family trauma that pervades THE DAY OF THE DOOR is horrifying, but coupled w the intensely creepy events that occur, this story encapsulates HORROR in a masterful, terrifying way. Years ago, my Mother-in-law began reading, "The Exorcist". She said it was the most evil book she ever read. So evil in fact, she couldn't finish it, took it over to the beach and threw it into the ocean off a fishing pier.

I've just finished Michiko Aoyama's "What You Are Looking for Is in the Library" and quite enjoyed its series of vignettes about various people's insights following their fateful visits to the local library. Definitely a cozy read. Though now that I've seen the title of the French translation (La bibliothèque des rêves secrets) I cannot help but wonder what the original Japanese title was.

If you’re looking to make your knowledge of the world more well rounded, the Oxford University Press’ Very Short Introduction series is a great place to start. The books are written by experts, usually 120-160 pages long (3-5 hours in audio) and generally at roughly a first year university subject level. They have books on an astounding range of subjects. I’m trying to read as many of them as possible, I’ve finished 25 so far
