I find the fandom’s pressure on George R.R. Martin to finish his saga quite problematic—and controversial. People forget that authors are human beings dealing with personal challenges. Ever since Lester del Rey, the Fantasy publishing industry has treated art purely as a commodity. We need to bring more empathy and humanity back into how we treat writers.

Link for There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury (written May 1950)
Today is August 4, 2026 (an appropriate time to read this Ray Bradbury short story)
Finished When Moon Hits the Eye by John Scalzi.
The book is divided so that each chapter is a new day, and it’s from perspective of new people. So there is no story of certain people, rather it’s about the “event” and we see things from different people’s point of view throughout the book.
I didn’t know that, so it took some getting used to, but once I had come to terms with that it was a very interesting book.
Highly recommended for soft sci-fi fans.

Just finished Uninhabitable Earth: Life After Warming, by David Wallace-Wells.
It's accessibly informative about climate science. I did not agree with every assertion the author made about either the social sciences or political science, but those were minor quibbles.
I would definitely recommend this book. Even though it was published in 2019, the information is just as salient right now. If anything, the timeline of climate accelerated events has sped up more quickly than he anticipated, which is important in itself.
I had to take breaks, not because the author was too pessimistic. On the contrary, he seemed too optimistic. He predicted that we will work together to slow down the carbon we are putting in the atmosphere, with wholesale changes by entire countries.
There was a lot of academic discussion towards the end of the book, but the first part was my focus: what can we expect, how will it continue to unfold, and what do we need to demand to do something about it? Turns out that individual effort, though not nothing, will do little to slow down the worsening of the Climate Crisis. We need entire countries to divest from fossil fuels. Some are already doing that now, but we need the biggest countries, the major contributors to the problem, to convert to cleaner energy sources. We are in for a world of hurt, but we could make it hurt a lot less.
