Rated Girl Goddess #9: Nine Stories 6/10
book
Rated Doctor Who: The Book of Kells 10/10
I very much enjoyed this historical! I like Tamsin, I like the setting, the twist(s), all of it.
Rated Oasis' Definitely Maybe 8/10
(A full review will be forthcoming.)

I can't rightly give this book less stars, despite disagreeing with the majority of Niven's post-1995 assessment of the band (it's as though he didn't listen to Dig Out Your Soul at all), among a few other details. (Call 2000-onward members "session" musicians, yet talk about the influential effect of Ride? Who do you think was IN Ride?)

Still, I can respect the thoroughness in other areas and in dealing with Definitely Maybe itself. He is way more fair than a lot of music writers are about Oasis, but there will still be plenty to talk about when I write more on this.

Rated A Thousand Brains: A New Theory of Intelligence 8/10
The book is divided into three parts. The first is about the Brain, the second is about Machine Intelligence, and the third about the future existential threats that humanity will face.

The first part is illuminating. The second one is very interesting: I don’t agree with everything but it is a must read for the future of Artificial Intelligence.

The third part is a bit at odd with the rest of the bot. It is an interesting collection of discussion point. It is definitely worth reading but there is no real insight. There are a lot of speculations on the far future that should be taken with abundant grains of salt. They are not farfetched, let’s be clear, but every time we try to talk about more than 100 years in the future we are very likely to go in “total speculation mode”. Moreover, I can see that the first two parts came from the expertise of the author, while the third not.

Anyway, it is a book I really recommended.
Happy National Limerick Day!
A limerick is a five-line humorous poem with a distinct AABBA rhyme scheme and a bouncy rhythm.
Edward Lear (born today) popularised the form in the 19th century, frequently using them in his #Book of Nonsense.
What is your favourite limerick? Feel free to share 😉

Rated Other Heartbreaks 8/10
Achingly authentic, most of the stories concern families coming together for an event, oftentimes a funeral or a wedding. The women are young and old, straight and not, and the men are just as tough and complicated. One doesn't always like them, but they remain interesting.

Other Heartbreaks is an excellent portrayal of the journeys we take to feel whole — the process we must recognize in order to do so. Henley's work is honest and resonant, and it is work to which I will return again.

(Full review appears at Glorified Love Letters.)

Rated Spark 6/10
SPARK is a somewhat disorienting little book. What starts out as a fairly straightforward story turns into a darker, mysterious world.

The trouble I had with these mysterious occurrences was that I wasn't entirely sure that they were real. Now, maybe the issue is that I was reading the book while tired, before bed, and maybe there were clues that I did not notice. If Mauk intended to makes these experiences surreal, I cannot say for certain if that's how they come across.

I'd be curious to hear other readers' impressions. SPARK is definitely a novel that merits discussion, and I hope that it gets it.

(My full review appears on Glorified Love Letters.)
