I agree with some of the more negative comments about the early pages being a bit of a slog. For a character-driven story I had a difficult time relating to the main characters. Not that they were bad, unlikeable people but some of them are pretty strange (I'm beginning to wonder if Elizabeth Bear hasn't got a thing for automatons) and there is a lot of worldbuilding going on that tends to slow the plot down considerably. Eventually, however we've got all the players on stage and things really pick up in the second half. I'm charged up to see where Bear takes us now, and I have a lot of faith in her ability to make me happy I made the slog.

Rated Green City Wars 10/10
His <i>Dogs of War</i> series made it clear that Tchaikovsky is intrigued by the idea of "augmented service animals" or <i>Gehirner</i> and has the wit and vivid imagination to spin a fascinating story from it. I'll leave the plot synopsis to the copy writers at Tor because it's far too wild and amusing for me to make the attempt. I came late to Tchaikovsky because those descriptions can be intimidating to an ancient sf reader. Thank God the man is prolific as Hell because I've got a huge amount of back catalog to work my way through. Suffice it to say that he's a genius and a cracking good storyteller. <i>Green City Wars</i> brought me enormous pleasure.
