<i>Mistake</i> very much mimics the chaos of a noisy brain attempting to process some major life event.It's a volume I will likely reread once more, as now I feel compelled to better understand. Even flipping through for the purpose of reviewing, after reading it twice, I already notice more about what is happening on the page. I wouldn't say I loved <i>Mistake</i>, but I liked the challenge, and anything that makes me want to revisit it is probably a good thing. I liked this, but especially the second to last (and the longest) story, set in a mall-as-civilization with magic.

Rated Mind of my mind by Octavia E Butler 8/10
<div>Not quite as strong as Wild Seed, but in reading the reviews, I see that this series was not published in story-chronological order, which is how I'm reading it. I imagine the particulars of this world/premise were better fleshed out in Butler's head by the time she got to Wild Seed (which was excellent). That said, this is still a very good book, and I'll definitely be continuing on with the series. Not to spoil the ending, but it will be interesting to see how this version of humanity progresses in the next installment.</div>

<div>Last year, I read a lot of Val McDermid books (mostly the Karen Pirie series, but a few of the others too), so getting a used copy of this behind-the-scenes look at various locations she has used as inspiration for her books was interesting. The photos are great, and the book ends with a short story taking place on the Isle of Jura, and it's a good one. If you come across this and like her mysteries, it's worth reading.</div>

This was really great! Lots of humor and adventure and it wrapped up the Epoch storyline nicely. I enjoyed listening to this a lot.
