Honestly, it's more of a 4.5, but screw it, I'll round up. My quibbles are more of the editorial sort. She could use more dialogue tags, and somehow a few typos slipped through, but otherwise this is a great, interesting book. Marsh’s writing examines the competition between the internal and external — the performances we give others, and how it feels to be in one’s own body. The body, the occasional crudeness of physicality, and how that affects a woman’s inner monologue is constantly at play throughout the story. Iris is strong all throughout her learning about herself, but while she may not show it to others, she’s quite in touch with her insecurity. She resents her initial lack of educational opportunity, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to stop learning to spite herself. Rated Life Is Strange Vol. 5: Coming Home 8/10
<div>I haven't played the video game this is based on, and previously, I'd only read Vol. 1 of the comic, but this holds up even if you're not fully versed in the universe(s) involved. The summary at the beginning of the various characters is enough to get your bearings, and the story in this volume otherwise stands well on its own, even though it does somewhat end in a cliffhanger. The artwork is also good.</div>

<div>Absolute perfection. I loved Douglas Stuart's previous novels, Shuggie Bain and Young Mungo, and this third novel was no different. Set on one of the islands in the Northern reaches of Scotland, John of John has a lot to say about fathers and sons, tradition vs. evolution, and how we come to take care of one another. How do we become fully ourselves in a place full of obligation? What if that sense of obligation has become a comfort? It's a beautiful book. </div>
