Rated The Struggle for Mastery: Britain, 1066 - 1284 8/10
<div>Great overview of this period of history in Britain. Focuses primarily on political history but touches on other aspects as well like economy. Very good bibliography to dive deeper into certain topics which is another reason why this is a great intro book. </div>

Rated Lightning Runes 8/10
Still enjoying this series, it's comforting to read something in Turtledove's distinctive voice. We get a bit more of the characters' back story and there's a few new characters, fun alternate history with magic, but the main plot seemed a bit meandering and wrapped up pretty neatly. Fun to read and I'll read the next one too.
Rated November Road 10/10
Very well written, maybe the ending is a little too pat. Draws the main characters clearly and they all sound different. I did like the short epilogue though. I'll look for more by this author.
Rated Everybody's Perfect 8/10
It took me a few chapters to get into this one and even then I would pick it up and put it down. Each chapter is a different viewpoint during overlapping stories in an interesting but heavily Venetian fantasy city, all different intelligent nearly human species. Kind of ambitious and I think there might be other people who like this book more than I do...the writing is excellent as you get to see most of the viewpoint characters in the other chapters and they don't always look like they do inside their own heads.
Wants to read Schemes & Scandals
Rated Grim Folk Tale 8/10
This one is quite good, follows the urban fantasy formula somewhat but there are two main viewpoint characters. Some of the magical rules seem somewhat arbitrary but it makes for a fun story, also I like the moving forward of the main characters' relationships and the resolution to one of the big problems the characters had.
Wants to read Claire Dewitt And The Bohemian Highway: A Mystery
Rated Locked In 8/10
Wow, a lot of stuff happens in this one and some old mysteries get solved. I think I read somewhere that there won't be any more of these but this is a decent place to wrap up.
Rated John of John 10/10
This might be my favourite [a:Douglas Stuart|19629033|Douglas Stuart|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1570471773p2/19629033.jpg] novel so far. I like the viewpoints of the father and son and it's fun to see their lives and how each sees the other. Maybe a bit less trauma in this one than in his other two books.
Rated Blacktail 10/10
I loved [b:The Library at Mount Char|26892110|The Library at Mount Char|Scott Hawkins|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1453225113l/26892110._SY75_.jpg|42797715] and this is hardly like that book at all, except for being very engaging and well-written. Most of the characters are animals and it almost reads like an epic legend, but from very personal viewpoints. (Also it's not very long so it's a quick read.)
Wants to read The Language of Liars
Rated Buckeye 10/10
Very well done and does a great job drawing a picture of some connected families over generations. Makes me want to look up some more of his writing.
Wants to read Wake Up and Open Your Eyes
Rated Ignore All Previous Instructions 10/10
This was a lot of fun -- space opera with pretty hard SF except for maybe the AI? It also has queer and neurodivergent characters in it portrayed very realistically. Goes back and forth between the 'present' and the main character's youth. I don't think it needs a sequel but I'd enjoy reading more about the main characters.
