Hey internet. I'm looking for a webhoster to get my new website up and running. I'm using a static site generator, so no PHP, database or other shenanigans needed. Just files on a webserver (that I don't have to manage myself).
I'm aware of most of the obvious options (GH pages, CF pages, GL pages, Vercel, Netlify, etc. etc.) but I'd prefer a small-ish non-VC non-AI company/org, ideally European. Any recommendations? Boosts welcome! #lazyWeb #fediAsk #askFedi

I wanna move my PeerTube Channels over from MakerTube what should I do?
I have a few PeerTube channels on @MakerTube
The goal was always it to be a temporary home for my YouTube content. The time has come to help MakerTube by moving my content away from there system's freeing up storage space and not costing them a monthly price for hosting.
I've got a few options;
Option 1 -- I upload all channels content to this account. Making it a mix of gaming, vlogging and general posts I've done across video content.
Option 2 -- I create new accounts on solent.social where I upload these bits of content allowing me to boost it with my main account as a 'go check it out' system. (I'm questioning how I'd name them as I currently run two channels of "SamXavia" for vlogging / motorvlogging content and "SamXaviaGaming" for gaming content, but I could rather simplify this name or keep it the same as my main on here is Sam)
Option 3 -- I take more time and start up my own PeerTube instance to make sure that the content gets put onto PeerTube along with the rest of the Fediverse instead of where microblogging systems post to. This option doesn't give much benefit to me other than spending more money from what I can see but I might be missing something.
So help me, what do you think I should do? They are all okay options and have there benefits, but I do really want to make sure my content is out here on the Fediverse and it is better to have proper control / ownership of it.

(I can't fully do the style justice without (a) already knowing them a bit better, and (b) having italics to play with in the formatting here! but I feel sure you'll know the things I mean :-) )
I am on a bit of a geeky sidetrack about the style and language of these. I would really like to find a stash of them where I can flip through like 100 examples of those title pages, and "get my eye in" for their vibe. Or failing that, at least a dozen.
Searching isn't doing it for me, because I'm finding mostly either explanations _about_ the making of them, or later examples which don't have the glorious miscellany of type styles.
Does such a collection exist online? Where should I be looking?
Or would my only hope be to physically visit a library? (which realistically I probably wouldn't get around to, as this is only a side enthusiasm, but maybe one day. I'm based in Nottingham, England.)

ich bräuchte etwas Unterstützung. Ich werde morgen Nacht, vorher schaffe ich es nicht, aufgrund eines familiären Schicksalsschlages bis auf weiteres in #Rotthalmünster Stellung beziehen. Um da zu sein für jemanden der immer da war. Und jetzt 2:30 Stunden entfernt von der Kernfamilie „verlegt“ alleine ist nachts.
Und ich suche keine Bleibe, kein Zimmer nichts. Ich und mein Bus. Wenn ich irgendwo schlafen und verarbeiten kann, dann dort. Wir stehen irgendwo. Darum geht es auch nicht.
Es geht darum mal einen Wasserkanister aufzufüllen, eine Trommel Wäsche für nen Fünfer waschen - nehm ich nass mit. Sowas.
Meint ihr @fediverse das da was zamginge?
Es findet statt - so oder so - kriegen wir bisschen Support obendrauf hin?

Question for the community. How's y'all's experience with various Instant Messaging services? I don't use discord except with some of my friends, and I'm trying to get away, as it seems to be going the way of enshittification.
I've used Matrix before, and I'm aware of some of the technical annoyances as a user. Does it tend to have good community (like, among gay nerdy Mastodon folks at least?). What about the other options, like XMPP clients, or like Delta Chat or something?
I believe I've even heard (i might be wrong) that IRC 3 allows for asynchronous texting, so you don't have to be online in order to keep receiving messages that you can read later? Is this a thing? Everytime I look this up, I can't find any good info one way or the other.
Even if there's no community, I'm curious what y'all think has the potential to become a somewhat ubiquitous technology among folks on Fedi? I wanna see more Instant Messaging online in these spaces.

I'm trying to keep up with my reading (for classes & fun) via audiobooks. Audible being an Amazon company is more and more upsetting for me b/c I’m trying to stop giving Amazon any $.
Things I like about Audible are huge selection, ability to buy books for ~$11/book, app that always works. Can folks on Fedi suggest an alternative that doesn’t involve me (a non-coder) trying to kludge my own book server or something (a thing I can’t do)? #askfedi #books #bookstodon
If I'm getting ready for localization of my film and I want to add both subtitles and descriptive audio, should I just use SRT for both?
Obviously they would be used differently, and I will likely record the English descriptive audio myself. But it seems like SRT would provide a good representation for other language readings. Does that make sense?

Can anyone out there please recommend a good 39SF040 EEPROM programmer / universal EEPROM programmer that is either mac or linux compatible?
I have a kit that was sent to me with a bad EEPROM. It's been two weeks since the problem was discovered and I just found out the seller still hasn't shipped me the replacement.

Dear Fedi, advice and suggestions please! My father is losing his eyesight due to age-related macular degeneration; he has some peripheral and distance vision left, but almost no near vision, and is for example unable to read either screens or print. Might anyone have any ideas for making his life easier, either with assistive technologies (which is the best screen reader?) or general tips for navigating daily life?
