I was listening to a podcast where the guest argued: when it comes to art, today's AI is like a tool, but in the future, maybe it could be an artist.
As he explained why, it became clear why I disagree with him. He defines "art" as a product that is valued by art critics and by consumers. I agree that AI generated content may become more common and broadly accepted in the future, but I don't think that's a good thing, and I wouldn't call it art!
I see art as more of an activity than a product. An artist does art. Whatever the output of that process is, valuable or not, is also called "art."
Am I saying only humans can make art? Not at all. But to be "art" it has to be self-expression. The artist must have something to say. As long as we are designing the AI, training it, and prompting it, then it will be a tool. Without us it has no initiative, no opinion, and no creative urge.
Maybe there isn't A Tipping Point, but several. Like milestones on the long road to freedom. I've just reached one.

Thoughts: AI corps scraping data
The corporations assert that they can utilize public data without incurring any costs, citing fair use as their justification.
To address this issue, we should implement a law that compels corporations claiming fair use as a defense to make all their process data publicly available, free of charge. This would ensure that the scraped data, as well as data derived from the freely available data, is accessible to the public.

It is unfortunate that many journalists do not realise how dangerous the new AI in WhatsApp really is. Der Spiegel, for example, writes in a recent article: “Meta AI does not have access to users' private chats, however, thanks to end-to-end encryption.” As a matter of fact, the AI does have access as it is used in the context of private chats or group chats. Sadly, this misinformation lulls users into a false sense of security. 🤦

The #AI boycott movement is peak liberal idealism. It's the political equivalent of shaking a fist at the sky. Unhappy with the tech? Can’t imagine real action? Just vote it away! As if moral posturing ever stopped a single corporation.
True change requires building, not pleading. Open development where artists, engineers, and communities co-create tools is the only path to wrest control from Silicon Valley’s black boxes. You don’t vote out exploitation, you have to put in work to replace it.
I've been writing using em dashes since the 1990s. The reason AI uses em dashes is because it was trained on my writing, and that of countless other humans like me.
