Hi, do you have any book recommandations about autistic burnout/meltdown/shutdown?

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 853 , Friday 27/02/2026
Up just after 7am.
It’s been a mixed day, I did my chores and also cleaned the extractor fan in the bathroom - I cannot believe that it is over 6 months since I last did it - the time has just flown by!
I also did some more work in the box room, it’s not a big room but it seems to be taking forever to decorate!
Got a bit further with the book reorganisation in my room.
Had pizza for tea which ordinarily would have been a good thing but things happened that, for me at least, cast a pawl over the rest of the evening.
Final Thoughts.
Some days I realise that I am in a situation that I cannot escape & that realisation draws the black dog closer!

@autistics #ActuallyAutistic the new all staff meeting “tradition" is the "silver linings" overshare…
…hyped as an “ice breaker" but it’s really a passive aggressive social engineering fishing expedition…
…since if you do not share OR share inappropriately, you will be judged forevermore
Well the rejection sensitivity is strong today.
After months of looking for a family doctor, I finally got to "meet and greet" one several weeks ago. So, after not hearing anything in all that time I decide to call the clinic to find out what's happening. Turns out I was not accepted, but no one told me! Gee, thanks. I guess I'll just start all over again. It's not like I have anything better to do.
Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 855 , Sunday 01/03/2026
Sunday started at just before 8am.
A fairly standard Sunday, the sun shone this morning which did improve the day no end!
Not really got up to much today although Sophie and Alice have been especially cute & cuddly - or at least as cuddly as they get!
Made us a ‘cheat’ stew for tea & Mrs S went out & got us some chips to go with it.
Final Thoughts.
A day where I managed to start back up from the darkness of the last few days.
Some sunshine certainly helped.

@autistics #ActuallyAutistic i intentionally work from home to not be around people…
…and today there's someone working on my deck and my bathroom at the same time...
…and i am physically dead center between them…
…let the games begin
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic this should be a mandatory work place posting every 5 feet in an office space…
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic this is the way...
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic do you often find yourself minimizing the work you do on a subconscious level as some sort of way to prove yourself to neurotypicals?
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic have na ADHD friend in need of recommendations for a reliable transciption software for meetings etc.
as this is not my area, thought i would check in here.
I have Prosopagnosia (face blindness) and worked with someone today (just us) for 8 hours. I was fairly sure (fortuitously I saw their log in name on a computer) that it wasn't a person who has the same name who I have known for years, and I generally recognise.
She told me some work history, which I think I'd heard before, but that isn't so embarrassing.
Having lots of people who look remarkably similar (same ethnic background, haircut- even personality) is challenging for people like me.

Unpopular take: I'm #ActuallyAutistic and I love April Fools' Day. @autistics
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic normalize this too…
these days it’s always, Am I managing this for my weirdness, or am I just fucking it up? (It’s about the guitar right now, but kind of about anything I do.)
.
Mostly somewhere between, some from column A, some from column B, kind of thing.

I don’t see how anyone gets “Autism awareness,” without getting the root concept of neurotype. I don’t see the point or possibility of Autism awareness without it, without Allism awareness.
.
Sorry.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 871 , Tuesday 17/03/2026
Monday started at around 7am but it took me ages to actually get up, I finally made it downstairs at about 07:15.
Breakfast was committed & then the daily chores.
I was going to have a sofa surfing day today to rest my back but the new clothes rail for my wardrobe rocked up so I had to fit that & then I spent just under an hour in the box room. Have got to the sanding phase, so I just did a few easy bits that didn’t create too much dust, discovering some extra bits that I had missed when I was repairing the cracks & holes in the walls.
It’s been a really sunny day so I made use of the free power from the solar panels & put the dishwasher on a self clean cycle.
I finally settled down around 2pm when I decided to watch the first Jack Reacher movie. I don’t remember seeing it before & did enjoy it in a turn your brain off & go with the flow kind of a way.
Also managed an hour or so running around medieval Bohemia before Mrs S got home.
Final Thoughts.
Not surprisingly my back is not happy with me this evening so I will have to make a more concerted effort to rest tomorrow!

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 875 , Saturday 21/03/2026
Saturday started earlish at just after 7am.
Breakfast & chores followed then a couple of hours of peace & quiet with Mrs S out shopping.
It’s been a generally quiet day we caught up on a couple of shows this afternoon then finished the day with a calzone while we watched the penultimate Jack Ryan movie - ‘Sum of all Fears’ a movie I have always liked. It struck me that if something similar were to happen today then the orange oaf would not hesitate to start WW3 & cause nuclear armageddon!
Final Thoughts.
My brain was a little less all over the place today which was a welcome change, still very tired though!

I wanted to express gratitude to all of you on here for sharing your lived experience, struggles and all.
I’ve learned more about myself through your sharing than I ever would have doing this by myself or with “official support”.
With a special shoutout to people from the #ADHD side of our tribe, giving me invaluable, refreshing—and sometimes confronting—insights.
Thinking about switching from Windows to Linux yesterday created a cascade of thoughts in me I didn’t expect and I would liket to tell you a bit about it, about me. I am an AuDHD cis woman (she), somewhat fluid in gender (autigender) and personality, I constantly grow and adapt.
I am a Xennial and worked as a concept developer and PM in tech during my 20s until my first huge burnout, that made me spend several months on an almost empty island in Thailand and in India and quit my job. During my 30s I worked as a yoga teacher, but I never really recovered from the burnout. Because of that and other health problems, I have been unemployed for several years by now. I live together with beagle Lumi, a rescue from animal testing.
Since I found out that I am autistic 4 years ago, things slowly improved, but I cannot change the fact that I am an autistic, disabled person in an allistic, ableist world. Because of my sensory issues and other aspects of my disability, I can barely exist in the outside world. Besides my daily walks with Lumi and very few planned activities, I spend most of my time at home, so it’s almost impossible for me to meet like minded people IRL. The fact that I live in a very conservative country, city and neighborhood doesn’t help with that either.
As an Anarchist I believe in community and mutual support, but switching to a new operating system with only the online-community here on Mastodon as support is scary. I have an IRL friend who is a sys-admin, but he is specialized in Windows and very busy. I am a fast learner and have exceptional analytical skills, but I am not a programmer, my math skills are extremely limited and the burnout affects my capacity for learning new things. I have a very monotropic mind, am very attached to objects and change can be difficult for me as autistic person.
But currently I feel the need for change, for tidying up my life, my data, myself.
I still have my information architect and project manager skills and I already have a list in my mind of all the things that will be affected by the change and I have a lot of questions. I will write about that in another post, probably several other posts.
Thank you for reading this, thank you for helping me, boosts are welcome.
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic i've always wondered how neurotypicals can say the word “synergies” with a straight face
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic in response to a meeting yesterday:
Say [team] again.
Say [team] again! I dare you!
I double-dare you, motherfucker.
Say [team] one more goddamn time.
—Jules Winnfield, Pulp Fiction
I gave feedback on a PhD student's first manuscript and finally used the phrase "this is close to being finished." Her actual supervisors (I'm "just" a coauthor) have been using phrases like "one more round and this section is done" or "we're almost ready to submit" for ages already. Is this some sort of neurotypical ecouragement? My feeling about their remarks has always been "no way" until very recently. Why would you say that when you must know it's not true? Of course I encourage in my commenting as well but those types of claims seem ridiculous, almost lying.
