whenever a new thing boasts about having reached "1.0", i get real curious about its accessibility. if it wasn't built with accessibility in mind, it becomes more difficult to make it accessible afterwards.

This is interesting (though I dislike that it seems to be burning tokens/resources to determine).
It says my "Gumnos" nym has a "strength" of 294 and is in the top 20%. I'm not really sure what that's supposed to mean. Top 20% of what?
More amusingly, it seems to have identified me as an active Stack Overflow user (I have maybe a dozen posts and haven't logged in for *years*), that I'm associated with "gaming communities" (um, not really), and (mis)identifies that I contribute to the Fish shell and am a longtime member of the Perlmonks community, knowledgeable in Perl.
By name, it (mis)identifies me as blind (I do lurk in blind/VI #a11y communities, but am not blind myself), as the creator of the vimtree plugin (I'm certainly not, since I don't use vim plugins),
Sigh, my timeline at a11y.social has not been updating since may, so I think it is finally time to move my #accessibility-related posting to a new server.
It seems like the instance with the most #a11y-related content coming from it is front-end.social, but registration is not open. Does anyone there have an invite link that I could use?
I'm also open to other domain suggestions!

I am at that stage in life where I actually want *LESS* things happening on an accessibility ready website. I see so many accessible websites, but they are just clutter clutter clutter. Sometimes, a simple <ul> will do, with no dates beside it, and if you wanna be like me, also hide the bullets but keep the <ul> #Accessibility #A11y

@NFB_Voice@nfb.social @nationsblind @President The previous and next buttons for Youtube's web Player have been hidden for three months at least from screen reader programs. I'm blind and I have pointed this out to Team Youtube on X, and have been ignored or been given basic trouble shooting scripts even when I documented that this was happening across multiple browsers whether I was signed into or out of my account. #Accessibility #A11y
I know blind people that willingly don't describe their images on Facebook.
I know blind people, actually, the majority of blind people, that *love* cloud based LLMs and can't stand any critique of the shitty people behind the tool, let alone the companies.
I know blind people that want TTS narrating audiobooks and audio description for everyone instead of humans.
I know blind people that sincerely believe audiobooks should *never* be used in an educational setting because Braille is better so audiobooks should *never* be used in an educational setting.
I know blind people that argue against having audio description and against accessibility because we should be fully independent.
Sighted people must understand that in the blind community especially, there's a *LOT* of blind people and even otherwise disabled people that *hate* all this “PC nonsense” PC is political correctness, but they're arguing against their own interests.
It happens in my own gay community too so instead of listening to blind people that hate other blind people, why not listen to a collective of blind people/other disabled people working to better local or digital environments.
I honestly didn't like the Against Access article when it came out, and I certainly don't like this quote being used to argue *against* access/accessibility instead of participating in an ongoing conversation about an optional filter.

If I'm getting ready for localization of my film and I want to add both subtitles and descriptive audio, should I just use SRT for both?
Obviously they would be used differently, and I will likely record the English descriptive audio myself. But it seems like SRT would provide a good representation for other language readings. Does that make sense?

Dear blind hive mind, My parents have some old family photos they want to digitize. They are not techy so this has become a task for me. Any advice on accessible scanning software? Windows or Mac is fine. Looking for the simplest way to do this. I'm not concerned with editing the photos after they are scanned. I just want an easy, accessible way to scan a crapload of old pictures. Bonus points for tips on creating a digital photo library with easily viewable image descriptions so that I can easily find the photos I want after I'm done with all the scanning.
