The main reason I wanted to come to Hiroshima on this trip is to visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. They have done a major renovation since my last visit many years ago, so I was curious.
As far as war trauma memorials go, my previous visit did not leave me with a particularly favorable impression, especially when compared with its Nagasaki counterpart or the one in Okinawa. Too much of the “Japanese as victims” narrative that eclipsed everything else.
Now that I have arrived in Hiroshima, I have (reluctantly) began to plan for this portion of the trip. Alas, judging from the Google reviews, they have only doubled down on this angle….
