The Lighthouse - Review

Although more nebulous in pretty much every aspect of plot, themes and messages than the director's borderline-perfect previous film *The Witch*, this is just as mesmerizing - maybe even more so. On a visual level, Robert Eggers goes into full overdrive here shooting with ancient lenses through an orthochromatic filter, evoking the aesthetics of early silent film which enhances the claustrophobic, hallucinatory atmosphere even further. This is a one-of-a-kind experience, timeless and brilliant filmmaking on every level. A possible five-stars contender but i won't just hand out a perfect rating for any film unless i've given it plenty of time and a few repeat viewings.
