The Big Heat - Review

This Fritz Lang directed late film noir, conventional in terms of narrative yet sovereign in its visuals, still manages to subvert genre conventions somewhat, both in regards to its protagonist who doesn't start out as a ruthless bastard but becomes a raging monster when seeking revenge later on, as well as the women caught up in the crime who, while often far from innocent, never particularly fit the classic "femme fatale" trope but rather became involved often by chance or accident and, ultimately, always take the fall in a men's world.
