Detective Story - Review

Based on the 1949 stage play, this noir flick looks and feels like a pretty straightforward adaptation with its limited cast and sets, linear plot while making perfect use of film language all the same. The super tight, character- and dialog-driven script pays off spectacularly here and its message about toxic masculinity seems pretty much ahead of its time in the portrayal of our main protagonist, a raging tough-guy cop afraid to face his own emotions, bursting with years of pent-up anger and frustration that inevitably finds its only outlet in destructive and violent behavior.
