When François Truffaut gets a bit too serious, it usually results in some kind of very classy soap opera and that's what this is too. Pretty unoriginal in terms of plot and characters but shot and performed with grace and style. Kind of a more successful rehash of The Soft Skin i'd say, sadly suffering from the same kind of laughably contrived tragic conclusion. Also, its backwards-ass views on mental illness haven't aged too well. Worth a watch but inessential.
