The Menu (2022)Before viewing The Menu, I read that someone compared it to Triangle of Sadness, probably because of the similar theme: criticism of capitalist decadence. The Menu was an amusing watch, but I liked Triangle of Sadness better. The Menu was a bit too predictable, a bit too polished, and a bit too unbelievable. ๐ MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD! ๐ What bothered me most was the passive attitude of the guests after they realized they would be killed. The Menu is probably meant as gallows humor, but most of the film seems to pretend being a thriller, causing some confusion how to interpret it. The black comedy elements and the resigned attitude of the guests take away the tension, and what's left is a thriller with an identity crisis, causing me to become a bit detached from the events and characters. The Menu made me desperately crave one of those cheeseburgers though. ๐
