Anomalisa (2015)

I guess Anomalisa is one of the most surreal animations I've ever seen, while being a movie about real people with real emotions. First of all, I am in awe of the choice to go for stop-motion animation using 3D printing, with an unbelievable amount of facial expressions and hand gestures. The amount of work that must have gone into making this film is dazzling. The characters have depth and the story is fascinating. I was really enchanted by the hotel room scene with Michael and Lisa. It goes to show that you can move your audience with good storytelling, regardless of the medium you've chosen. My only minor complaint is that the story development felt a bit rushed towards the end, leaving me a bit unsatisfied after enjoying the delicate chemistry between Michael and Lisa. But Anomalisa was definitely worth experiencing.
