Big Trouble in Little China (1986)Although I'm a long-time aficionado of Carpenter's film scores and horror films, particularly The Thing, Halloween and Christine, I'm less charmed by his lighthearted comedies. I loved the "Obey" part of They Live, but the rest of that film was too ridiculous and yawn-inducing for me. Then there's Escape from New York, which I consider to be halfway between Carpenter's good horror films and his campy, cheesy flicks. Big Trouble in Little China really belongs to the campy category, and I was amused enough not to start fast-forwarding, also because of the 1980s nostalgia, but the film's level didn't exceed that of a film made for youngsters. So, I'll stick to Carpenter's horror oeuvre.
