The Man in the Moon (1991)

I hoped The Man in the Moon would be a poetic, tragic drama about broken hearts in an atmospheric 1950s setting, accompanied by nostalgic crooner songs. Something like the Belgian Crazy Love (1987). But The Man in the Moon turned out to be an irritatingly sugar-coated, hackneyed, all-American goody-two-shoes family ties story, filled with clichés, filmed like a sun-drenched orange juice commercial, and accompanied by shiny, happy music that makes you want to bitch-slap the responsible composer.
