Now this hasn’t aged well at all. Completely disjointed in terms of storyline, the jokes being pretty hit-and-miss but mostly “miss”, the film does a great job at recreating the visual flair of the original Universal horror era, which is not enough to carry the film over its (for a comedy spoof) rather expansive running time. Many people refer to 70’s Mel Brooks as the golden era of spoof movies but, maybe with the exception of Blazing Saddles, i don’t really see it. Probably by the eighties at the latest, this approach to satire had run its course, with audiences expecting a bit more in terms of story, writing and subtext even from their comedies.
