the part that keeps getting to me is like, yeah, you know this has already happened because these urban developments in tokyo have already come to pass. but also, you keep rooting for the tanuki, i mean, they have tried so hard. they have tried so many times. and movies make you think that of course the last time has to work. and then it still doesn't. they have to do the unthinkable. and the film lingers on these beautiful moments in nature so that you really feel how much is being lost. takahata's movies just make me feel so many things at once. and then i go tell my friend that this movie just devastates me and she goes "The racoon scrotums in particular?"
