Idiocracy - Review

Underneath its raunchy surface this is quite an earnest movie at its heart. In the mid 2000s many Americans were alarmed at the follies of government and big business and this feels like something that came out of that. The voiceover narration gives me the feeling that they didn't rust the audience to get the satiric points, and they elected not to overestimate the intelligence of the viewing public. Even though it has a regrettable tendency to punch down on people it doesn't like, it's a watchable comedy, with a couple more surprises than one might expect. Nearly twenty years later, who am I to say they're wrong? This brand of comedy is not really my favorite but I'm glad it exists.
