While clearly similar to his father's body of work in terms of genre, themes and style, this one would - were it a David* rather than Brandon Cronenberg flick - certainly be regarded among his very best work. *Possessor* is way more interested in raising questions about humanity's ever more intertwined relationship with technology rather than giving us clear answers, among which is the matter of what remains of the human soul in the face of further progress in man-machine interfaces and neurotechnology - themes woven into a complex and mind-bending narrative without feeling too much up its own ass, centered around subjective human experience rather than empty technobabble. Surely this is not for everyone, but certainly a must-watch for folks who like having their minds fucked with by movies about folks having their minds fucked with.
