Out of the Past (1947)Out of the Past is Film Noir like it's meant to be, with all the necessary ingredients: cool guys, a femme fatale, nobody can be trusted, strong dialogue, lots of smoking and drinking, and sarcasm galore, all set in moody black and white cinematography with stylish art direction. Robert Mitchum is the personification of cool, Kirk Douglas is his worthy opponent, and the women are timelessly beautiful. A melancholic movie, to be enjoyed with a little too much whisky.
