This early eighties Nobuhiko Obayashi flick works best when it's allowed to go visually bonkers in its final act but otherwise, this is a disjointed mess of a movie blending elements of sports film, slapstick comedy, highschool drama and magical girl fantasy barely held together by its simplistic plot, the structural integrity of the whole thing always on the verge of collapse. As dumb entertainment, it does the job though.
