Second entry in Arrow Video’s Six Gothic Tales box set. Just as with Corman’s first E. A. Poe adaptation House Of Usher, this is another well-written and executed piece of rock solid craftsmanship. When we finally get to the actual Pit & Pendulum setpiece, this thing really kicks into visual overdrive, with its low-budget effects and surreal matte paintings lending it kind of a german expressionism-era vibe.
