Susana - Review

One of Luis Buñuel’s minor works, this is still well worth watching. Once again the plot concerns one of his favourite subjects, the friction between religious morality and sexual desires, both leading to quite a lot of drama when the beautiful and sexually assertive young woman Susana escapes from a reformatory (her sexual behavior probably being what first got her into this historical instrument of patriarchal oppression) and seeks refuge in the countryside on a wealthy family’s farm, inevitably stirring up just another hornets nest of repressed male sexuality.
