The Doors (1991)

You are not allowed to watch this movie without being at least mildly inebriated. ㋡ The Doors is Oliver Stone's sultry fever dream of Jim Morrison's turbulent rise and fall. Morrison was a fascinating rebel, but also a regretfully self-destructive substance addict, which amplified the asshole side of his personality, and I think it's good that Stone didn't glorify him. I saw The Doors for the first time in a movie theatre in 1991, with a bunch of friends. After it was finished we immediately decided to go and see it again, but this time with lots of booze, because The Doors seduces you to become intoxicated and join the ghost of Jim Morrison in celebrating madness. That ghost has been truly captured by the young Val Kilmer, who did not just play Jim Morrison, but became Jim Morrison.
