a review of 时光流逝

A host of well-known actors doesn't make up for a hackneyed plot and/or mediocre direction. Where the Day Takes You features Kyle Maclachlan, Lara Flynn Boyle, Christian Slater, Will Smith and a few more 1980s / 1990s celebs, but the film fails to achieve what it wants to achieve: making you feel for a group of homeless runaway youngsters in Hollywood. Lara Flynn Boyle's performance didn't convince me at all. In fact, she slightly annoyed me. Her Twin Peaks co-star and David Lynch muse Kyle Maclachlan can't do much wrong to me, but even his character felt out of place in Where the Day Takes You. In the end I enjoyed the early 1990s atmosphere, and the film wasn't all bad, but the predictable progress and one-dimensional characters were reasonably yawn-inducing.
