Now that was an interesting little film… not all that much of a haunted house flick rather than a supernatural mystery; gothic in the sense that anything unusual or ghostly is to be understood as a manifestation of repressed past events, the metaphorical skeletons in the closet of any old house - and i mean “house” as in “family”. Oh, and at times it’s also a romantic comedy. Or a thriller that happens to have crime-solving ghosts in it. A thoroughly oldschool thrill in its filmic approach, yet refreshingly unusual in its use of supernatural tropes - i love how our lead characters approach the strange happenings with a curious, inquiring mindset rather than just fear. Yeah, this is a haunting done right - if you ever try to make a haunted house film, it better be about something other than just ghosts ‘cos ghosts alone are boring and don’t exist anyway.
