Rushmore (1998)

At first I was afraid Rushmore's humor would be too contrived and intellectual for my liking, but as the movie progressed the characters grew on me. I've got a love-hate relationship with Wes Anderson, similar to my ambivalence towards the Coen brothers: I think some productions are downright brilliant, while I find others to be boring and pretentious, suffering from the form over function syndrome. I quite liked Rushmore though. Just enjoying the hypnotizing beauty of Olivia Williams would have been enough reason to watch Rushmore until the end.
