Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)Dr. Strangelove was one of the few Kubrick films I still had to view. Being a Kubrick fan, I was a little afraid that the humor would have become dated, and to my experience it indeed has become dated, but only partially. The nuclear warfare madness theme is still applicable to modern day politics and warfare. The sarcastic winks to paranoia about communism can be translated to paranoia and fear-mongering about terrorism. So, regarded in its contemporary context, Dr. Strangelove was decades ahead of its time, as a number of Kubrick films were, such as 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's also interesting and admirable how the anti-war theme was a recurring theme in Kubrick films, starting with Paths of Glory, and ending with Full Metal Jacket. Last but not least, Dr. Strangelove made me realize what a genius Peter Sellers was. His Pink Panther films and The Party used to make me laugh my ass off as a kid, and I really want to rewatch them now. Just the nostalgia factor is already enough reason for that.
