The Gauntlet (1977)When I started watching The Gauntlet, I was convinced it was a Dirty Harry film. Although it turned out not to be, it was virtually indistinguishable from one. The only difference was the name of Clint Eastwood’s cop character. The Gauntlet had its moments, but overall I thought it was a meagre repetition of the Dirty Harry antics. Kudos to Eastwood for including a smart woman who made Harry… I mean… Wannabe Harry look like a loser. But the final scenes with the tour bus receiving approximately 1 million bullets, while Eastwood and his fellow passenger still came out nearly unharmed, then shot the corrupt commissioner amidst a hundred cops, were simply ridiculous. Films like these could only be made and succeed in the 1970s.
