The 3 Penny Opera - Review

Famously disowned by Bertold Brecht for completely eliminating every last hint of the political messages his original stage play carried, this film adaptation is indeed only a partial accomplishment at best. Visually brilliant at times, risque and provocative (for its time at least) in some of its subject matter, yet very obviously a watered down, rather toothless version of Brecht's original vision. I'd say it's well worth watching even though almost a century later, you can't help but wonder what awesomeness might have ensued, had the author been involved. Also, this really makes me wanna catch a contemporary performance of the play when i get the chance to do so.
