The Burning Buddha Man - Review

Now this is something different, for sure. Director Ujicha realizes his thorougly D.I.Y., lo-fi approach to filmmaking in “geki-mation”, which consists mostly of hand-drawn backgrounds and stick-figure paper cutouts being moved in front of the those, plus occasional bits and pieces of stop-motion animation done in the same style. Visually, the whole thing looks kinda gritty and ugly on purpose, setting a suitable stage for the nerdy retro kaiju and science fiction story line, injected with strong flourishes of cronenbergian body horror.
