Lisa and the Devil - Review

The thing about Mario Bava is: He's awsome at creating atmosphere, crafting arrensting visuals and bloody, shocking horror set-pieces but when it comes to drama, he seems as clueless about human interaction as a space alien still trying to figure us out. That becomes a huge problem with this flick which, despite some brilliant moments and sequences, would need a lot more believable and relatable, fleshed-out character work to make us care. Also, this is Bava operating at the more nebulous, dream-logic end of the spectrum which sounds like a plus on paper (coherent storytelling not being among his prime capabilities anyway) but here it leads to quite a few dull stretches - despite its compact running time, Lisa and the Devil is overstaying its welcome quite a bit.
